A migraine can cause severe pain, usually on one side of the head. Nausea, vomiting, and other conditions may accompany them. Over 35 million Americans suffer from migraines, and there is no end to them in sight for many.
Chiropractic care can relieve migraines and other headaches through spinal manipulation, massage, and other techniques.
There are several types of migraines, each with varying levels of severity. Let’s look at the main two types.
A migraine that lasts more than 15 days monthly over three months is chronic. These migraines can come with an aura when you feel one coming before it happens (usually through flashing lights or a loss of vision) or without. Someone with migraines may experience intense head pressure, light sensitivity, vomiting, or other symptoms.
Episodic migraines follow the same symptoms as chronic migraines, except when someone has a headache under 14 days monthly. Sometimes, an episodic migraine may evolve into chronic. However, there are instances where you may not experience any migraines after one episodic case.
For many, migraines are debilitating. As a result, some will turn to medicine from doctors or hospitals to relieve their symptoms. In addition, one may become more mindful of triggers and avoid them whenever possible.
However, these methods often don’t address the cause. Chiropractic care involves spinal manipulation to reduce their frequency or soft tissue therapy, which can address some underlying causes. In addition, a chiropractor may work with new patients to find the best lifestyle changes to prevent migraines and headaches.
